JOLLY ST. NICK

January 10, 2014

Well, what happened is that Christmas came and we had no Christmas tree.  Literally, we could not find our artificial tree that we put up last year.  I think David was fine without a tree because less cleaning up.  Me and Grandmommy, however, NOT SO MUCH.  So, off we went to Home Depot and procured a tree right quick and there, already stuck into the new tree stand that was purchased as well.  After some straightening, some lights that did and then didn't work, and the addition of a tree skirt and approximately 4 ornaments....we were done.  No more this year.  Sad, but easy, and I was needing easy.  There was still merriment and Christmas cookies and fudge making and rum balls and egg nog.  Oh, and there was egg nog.

What there wasn't, was a Christmas card from the Perry family.  It was lost in the mail, or not sent at all....and then I was told that, "no problem, it'll be there in 2 days."  That was Christmas Eve.  I gave up and wrote letters of disappointment and was just overall flustered and frustrated about the lack of Christmas cheer that was to be sent out on our behalf.  I created a poem and stuck it in the cards when they arrived and I sent them.  G$% Dangit, I sent them anyway!  Good tidings for January 5, apparently, as it turned out.

Emma had a most wonderful holiday - she got a Jerome (riding giraffe, of course), books and college fund money and clothes and toys.  That was just at home - she received similar awesome gifts at my aunt and uncle's house in the mountains.  Everyone loves them some Emma.  She was spoiled in the best of ways and was a great traveler up and back.

We were able to relax and have a great time of friends and family and sugar.  This time, I did not get sick over the broccoli and cheese (the first sign that I was carrying a little Emma around).  This time, we remembered and thought about Mom....just like always and all the time.

It was wonderful and we are blessed to have a great family.
