PANTS

Monday, July 8, 2013

Sweet Cheeks is celebrating many milestones lately, the least of which is moving up from Size 2 diapers to Size 3.  This makes me sad on many levels, including the fact that you get less diapers in a box.  But these just LOOK like big kid diapers.  I am not ready for her to be a big kid yet.

But today she starts swim lessons.  I'm expected to put myself in the water with her (scary).  Because she's a baby.  I can't wait to see how she takes to the water.  I loved swimming when I was a kid and spent the entire summer at the pool.  Hopefully this will help her not be scared of the water and we can move on to the swim lessons where people don't have to see me in a bathing suit.

Emma had a wonderful first Fourth of July.  Her parents ate Chinese food, watched the hot dog eating contest and worked hard on not buying a new car.  She didn't wake up with the fireworks people were shooting in the neighborhood.  That used to be us, and this year I was just trying to keep the dog from barking her fool head off.

We traveled down to Charlotte this past weekend to see David's brother and his (now) wife.  We hadn't been down there in a long time due to my work schedule, but now we can.  Of course now we have a baby and things are still difficult.  We made it down there with relatively little screaming, so I call it a success.  Emma slept in her pack and play both nights, I got to have lots of wine and David got to have lots of beer.  Success again.  She changed their channel to the Japanese cartoon network (Donald works for Time Warner so they have every channel known to man) and we were all too occupied to change it.  Very disturbing.  We went to a burger bar and I had an amazing burger with a bun for the first time in forever.  I think they gave us free fried pickles because Em was so cute.  It was great to get away, even if we still dealt with baby things.

While there we also went out to the whitewater center, which is awesome.  But not when I am wearing black pants and a sweater and it was 100 degrees outside with no shade.  Next time we're going to get a babysitter and I'm going to raft on a single board all over the place.  We played rap music all the way home and Emma threw her hands up and shook her little body and head.  I thought Danielle would blow a gasket laughing.  What can I say?  My little Emma has the music in her.  (Of course when she starts picking up on words, we'll have to pick new songs, but til then Kanye's Workout Plan does the trick.)

Emma pulled herself up on the chair yesterday.  And then did it again on the coffee table.  She's getting big.  She ate some chicken and vegetables.  She tried some bran muffin.  It ended up in her hair, all over the table and in David's mouth.  The banana was not a pleasant experience, but was given right before bathtime, so crisis was averted.  One day she'll eat chicken nuggets.  Hopefully before college.

She's getting ticklish and we can get her giggling in no time.  It's the best sound ever.  I love my baby girl.

David built a workbench in the garage.  It looks good and I am super impressed with him.  I had no idea he knew how to do such things.  I would have straight up bought one.  He worked hard and I'm sure he'll enjoy having it.  Not as much probably when I tell him to build Emma a sandbox.  Cause that's coming.
