THERE IS A REASON YOU'RE CUTE

Monday, June 17, 2013

Perhaps I was unjustified in my desire to adopt out Emma this past weekend.  She's teething and I think when we try to put her to bed, demons come out of her.  The screaming is maniacal.  If perhaps we can remember to give her motrin BEFORE bed, then perhaps I will get more than 3 hours of sleep.  There are times I'm ready to shove the teeth back up into her skull.  It will make feeding time much less painful easier, and she can live on pureed foods.  Well now, problem solved.

But, no, seriously, the screaming....  She is so needy.  She always wants to be held and sometimes only by me.  (touching, I know)  She moves....everywhere.  Crawling here, scooting there.  Kid is not walking, but turn around and there she is.  She cuts on the playstation.  She chews on electronic cords.  She throws my shoes and sucks on the shoestrings.  She has $60 worth of toys at her disposal on the floor, and we keep her distracted with a Diet Dr Pepper bottle.  Where did we go wrong?

But, no, she's awesome.  During the day she's a regular delight, just like usual.  But apparently teething pain is more heightened in the nighttime hours.  Joy.  I guess she won't risk getting kicked out of daycare that way.  I feel terrible she's in pain but love the hugs I get in the process!

And what do I do when she does start walking?  I can't lock her up somewhere.  She wound up under the kitchen table the other day.  And the coffee table.  And sometimes she can't spin well enough to get herself away from the wall.  It's funny and she gets frustrated and starts whining.  New nickname is Right Turn.  We are going to have to put up orange construction fencing inside the house.

Really though, she is just so curious about everything and loves to be with us.  I can't blame her and am excited she's learning new things and experiencing life.  She's a happy baby!

Yesterday, she experienced her first Father's Day outside of her mother's belly.  She was, of course, the hit of the party.  We had the whole family over for hot dogs.  Nothin says party like weiners in a bun.  Grandmommy brought balloons.  Emma's never seen a balloon before, and I think she was a big fan.  Of course we all prayed the thing wouldn't pop, it would have scarred the kid for life.  Guess we'll have to invest in some balloons for her birthday party!

She's starting to crawl pretty good now, but only when she wants.  She prefers the army crawl, she could have stormed the beaches at Normandy with the best of them.  She's very smart and leaves one leg out and one leg underneath her so that she can reach for toys and then sit back on her haunches.  What a smartypants.  Once in a while she'll tip over, but not too often.  We're trying to teach her to land on her butt, might keep her head safe.  Might not.

She can kind of wobble her head to music and has an infectious laugh.  She likes to twist her body over when we're changing her diaper.  She loves electronics and will laugh at you and smile when you tell her "no."  A split second later she'll try to go back to what she's doing.  She knows her name and will cut her eyes at you when you're talking about her.  It's now hard to get pictures of her, since she starts lunging at my phone and she's always on the move.  I love how she flexes her feet and toes.    She likes to gnaw on parts of her car seat.  She loves her yogurt for breakfast (Yo Baby, Simply Plain).  David says it looks like Elmer's Glue.  She will now sit up in her crib when she gets fussy and stare into the video monitor.  Sweet Cheeks is getting creepy.

Oh, and I drank an $11 pomegranate martini on Friday night.  Holler!
