OH JOY

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Emma started off Valentine's week with a visit to the doctor for her 6 month checkup.  She sailed through her weigh in, coming in at a whopping 13 pounds, 9 ounces and just above 25 inches long.  Percentiles being what they are, she's small, got a big head and is fairly lengthy for her weight.  She gets her big head from her Daddy, so she should be pretty smart!

The kid got shots, including the flu shot, so I was better prepared this time for the tears.  Hers and mine.  I actually started laughing a bit when she started crying, since no sound came out, there was just redness, tears and a dancing uvula.  She screamed for about 2 minutes and then she ate lunch like nothing happened.  The rest of the week was a bit difficult with her feeding, but I think she's back on track now and feeling invincible.

David's mom spent the night on Friday and we were able to go out for an adult dinner, complete with drinks.  And then, because we are awesome, we drove down Franklin Street.  We were too full and I was too tipsy to actually go in a bar, but it was nice driving past them.  I sure miss those days of debauchery.

My sister and brother in law came to town and we spent the whole day with them.  I feel like we did a lot of eating.  Us and Emma.  Not much down time, but it was nice to see them and I know they loved meeting baby girl.

Emma prepared as well as she could for the Carolina-Duke game, but had to go to bed before tipoff.  I'm glad she's a deep sleeper, we got in a few choice words at a pretty high decibel a couple of times.  Pretty much par for the course.  I think David saved all his beer in the fridge, just for that night.
Probably best he had some beer, since he spilled 2 oz of my milk on the counter!!!!  So then I couldn't drink, because I had to try to milk myself again just to make up what was lost.  I sure wish men could have milk shoot out of their nipples, they might have a better understanding of what us women go through.

But when the doctor says Emma is growing up big and strong and look how attentive and laid back and developing on course and all of those things, I feel amazing that I've been able to do this for her.  This is my ticket to never living in a nursing home.

David and I exchanged Valentine's and had a wonderful VD dinner of Mexican food. Pretty much right up my alley. He gave me two dozen red roses (!!!!) and a box of chocolates. I gave him some chocolates and didn't give him a hard time about anything the rest of the night. That was my gift. But really, our gift was Emma. We played with her until it was time for her to go to bed. David posed her with one of my roses, since her name's Emma Rose. Metaphors aren't lost at our house.

Of course she tried to eat my roses when we forced her to hold them for pictures and was much more interested in the ceiling fan than posing for the camera. I'm pretty sure roses are toxic to eat.

I made Valentine's cards for each of Emma's classmates and teachers.  She also took some candy to her teachers along with bagels.  I am an awesome Mom, except for the eating roses thing.

Happy first Valentine's Day Emma Rose Perry!!!  We love you baby girl!
