DELIVERANCE, NEW RIVER STYLE

So we had a wonderful opportunity to go up to the mountains with our good friend Jonathan and, despite the terrible music he made us listen to on the way up the mountain, we had an amazing time.  All together there were 7 people and we had an absolute blast.  David's allergies got to him, so we didn't spend as much time outside in the evenings as we would have liked.  Everyone treated me like I was carrying the Hope Diamond instead of a baby, so I didn't carry anything or really get to do much crazy stuff like I normally would.

David is so protective of me and the baby, it's kind of hilarious but so so sweet.  We went kayaking, canoeing and tubing down the New River and it was pretty fun.  Until my arms starting hurting like I'd stuck pokers in them.  I should have rethought the whole "kayak will be easier" thing.  It's not.  I had to paddle the whole time by myself!

Everyone drank and had massive good times.  I did a shot of Gatorade.  Can't stop my party.  We grilled out two nights and everything was just so awesome.  We can't wait to go back up, but hopefully after the baby comes out and I can indulge in some river drinkin.

We strapped a beer cooler to a lifejacket that we strapped to one of the tubes.  Floating and drinking.  It's easy to pee in the river too, when you're sitting in a tube.  Not as easy in a kayak, but I found a log in a stream nearby and it worked JUST FINE!  David kept falling out of his kayak when he was getting in, or getting out.  I'm pretty sure I wet my pants, but I couldn't tell, since there was river water in my seat.  We got Karen's car stuck on a road up the mountain.  The thing just wouldn't make it.  So of course I panicked since I was driving it!  Thought we were going to slide back down the mountain and that me and baby would perish.  But, after I ground the tires into the gravel and burned (literally) some rubber, Dancy came and saved the day with his 4x4 Explorer.  He towed us out and we went about our day.  Everyone acted like it was nothing.  THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN IN DURHAM!  It was not nothing.

Survive and advance.  And we didn't get shot or, worse, violated by locals. :)

SO YOU'RE SAYING THERE'S A CHANCE

Welcome to the hectic lives of Clara, David and Baby Perry.  We are packing and moving and vacationing and hosting diving meets all in the next two weeks.  There is a pull in the carpet of our new home, which the sellers just found yesterday.  It has caused stress and I hope they fix or replace it.  They are nice people, so I trust that they will.

We had an ultrasound on Monday.  I say "we" because Dad, David and Janis all went and experienced another round of me and a bunch of belly gel laying on a gurney.  I guess it's not a time to be shy, but that little towel they give you as coverage doesn't cover anything.

What we found out was that Baby Perry is now 2.3 pounds and is on a perfectly normal track to come out in August.  It seems this is a normal size to be now and she should be a normally sized baby when she arrives.  Hopefully that equates to 6 pounds and under.  Regardless, we were all pleased that I hadn't messed up the kid yet with all the stress and Mexican food and chlorine from the pool.  Kudos to myself, I say.  For some reason I am surprised each and every time the kid shows up on the monitor, like she had fizzled away or something since the last visit.  I wish her mommy had only gained 2.3 pounds, but clearly, I am looking like the Michelin man bounding over tires and Detroit.  That makes me sad for people who are this large normally (and I am no petite chicken, either).  But I just don't see how they sleep or sit or do anything that involves comfort.

Our neighbors on the other side left town last weekend and asked us to pick up their boxes, as they were going to be married and receiving gifts.  Apparently that meant Crate and Barrel delivered their warehouse to their front door.  Between their boxes and ours, we looked like a UPS shipping facility.  They came back to retrieve said boxes and when I asked when they were getting married, they indicated that they just did - that's where they were.  Oh.  Oops.  Congratulations?  Now they are headed off for their honeymoon and asked us to pick up more boxes.  I checked out their registry, they have some good friends, and will have a lot of things to stuff into their 5x8 kitchen.

I was reminded of our own honeymoon just a year ago.  The highlight of my life.  Not graduation or being born.  Nope, my highlight was sitting on a beach in the Caribbean having Jose and Miguel bring me drinks while I got dark and crispy on the outside.  I miss those 6 glorious days.  Fast forward to me being pregnant, waddling in a pool with no A/C and not being able to tan or drink at all.  On the other hand, I now fully appreciate the idea of a "push present."  There should be a 9 month, this kinda sucks present too, because heartburn and swollen appendages and peeing your pants every once in a while when you smile is NOT REAL COOL.

No, but really.  I am performing a miracle in front of David's very eyes and it should be noted that we are excited for the little one to come.  I hope that this every two hours need to eat thing doesn't last long, because I really would like to sleep.

Baby Perry, we love you and will finalize your name soon.  David wants to tell people who you are.  I want you to make a name for yourself, not literally, but when you come out. Kinda like Kate Middleton.  Wouldn't that be nice?

YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT?

Things are ramping up in the Perry household these days.  We celebrated our first anniversary and waxed nostalgic about the awesome 2 weeks we had with the wedding and honeymoon.  (I would give a million bucks to go back to the Dominican right now and have a bahama mama).  We selected movers who will be taking all of our awesome stuff to our awesome new home.  We are so excited to get moved and just cannot wait until June 8 comes!  We have boxes everywhere and hopefully they will magically be filled with our stuff soon.

I had a doctor's appointment today.  For someone who hates going to the doctor, this is getting ridiculous.  I want Baby Perry to be healthy, but dang I hate the doctor's office, especially when said doctor's office is actually at the hospital.  Anyway, they surprised me with a glucose test, which meant I had to down orange Gatorade on crack in about 5 minutes.  I waited an hour so they could take 4 vials of my blood.  Then, I got surprised with a Rhogam shot in my butt.  Let me tell you how big that needle was.  She jammed that thing in there good too.  All this, so that my body doesn't attack Baby Perry.  You'd think because I am half responsible for her, that she'd be safe.  Apparently not.

Now I am on doctor appointments every two weeks.  Could it be any more fun than that???  Blood pressure still up a little, but I swear that room with that nurse and that BP cuff just hates me.  So, pee in a cup again.  I have it down to a science, especially since the 9th grade where I completely missed the cup and peed all over my pants at the doctor's office.  Just so I could play sports.  Hasn't happened since, I tell you that.  I just take my pants off.  Fool me once...

I left my Dr Pepper (caffeine free of course) at home this morning.  Not cool at all.

Did I mention we can't wait to move into this house!!!!!!!  It is such a great house.  We won't be able to eat food once we move, but it'll be worth it to live in luxury.

Did I mention there were jets in the tub....physically in the tub where I don't have to blow bubbles to create such water forces.

Gracie is doing great.  She got a grooming last week and just looks sharp.  Love that dog...  Thank you Lord for helping her to recover from whatever it was that attacked my precious puppy!

June 8!!!!!!!  Someone come help us pack :)

LIFE IS A HIGHWAY

After last week's craziness, we have finally reached a calming period that is really anything but calming.  Our due diligence on our house expired yesterday at 5 pm, so we have officially started packing!  Gracie seems to be doing better.  I am so relieved and am soaking up the little puppy while I still can.  We are supposed to be closing on both homes on June 8.  Here's what's going on until then:

1.  Packing.  We still have a lot of stuff I didn't really think about.  That's not including storage, Dad's house, Janis' house or my trunk.
2.  Finding movers.  We theoretically have to have a truck packed with all of our belongings the night before closing.  And then have said truck be driven to our new house after our closing the following day.  Is that even possible???
3.  Wedding pictures.  We still haven't picked them out for our album.  Oops.
4.  Doctor appointments.  I am still having a baby and would really like to make sure she is still there and healthy.  Especially after this period of ridiculousness.
5.  Work.  I have a crap ton of swim meets.  I have no weekends free between now and when we move.  I also have a three day event on closing day and the remaining weekend when we will be moving into our new house.  So glad I can be helpful during this transition in our lives.
6.  Do you know what accent color should go with pale yellow?  We don't either and really need to figure that out before the move.
7.  Fixing the stuff at our house.  We have inspection items that need fixing, three are easy.  One could prove disastrous.  Fingers crossed.
8.  Gracie needs grooming.  She looks like a brown bear.  I was too worried to subject her to a spa visit, but now I think it's necessary.  I love that little girl.
9.  Registering for a stroller.  I still don't know what we want.  I think a Maclaren?
10.  Spray tan.  I am WHITE.  What I wouldn't give for a few days at the tanning bed.  But alas, I am all about helping the baby come out with all its toes.  So I bought some spray stuff.  It might be working.  I might look like the Syracuse mascot.

We are so excited about this house and cannot wait until we move in and make it our own.  The master bathroom is phenomenal.  JETS in the tub and a floating glass shower door.  The deck is expansive and should hold everything grill related, a big deal for David.  The garage is actually a garage and I can park in there and not scrape my windows when it's cold.  We can host Christmas, complete with Egg Nog and vodka tonics, because we have space and a bar area!

I hope I start to feel the baby kick me soon.  She might have already and I've just chalked it up to Mexican food.  I need to eat less Mexican food.  The baby is going to come out screaming for tacos and queso.  I'm going to start telling her now that yelling doesn't get what she wants, maybe it will translate when she's out of me.

Pray for us, this month is going to suck and be awesome all at the same time.
